Ingredients for the Spicy Sauce

  • 2 small or 1 large well-cleaned lime
  • 1/3 cup of soy sauce or tamari (low sodium)
  • 1 coarsely chopped shallot
  • ¼ cup of brown sugar
  • 1-2 half vertically-sliced Thai chilies
  • 3 cloves of smashed garlic
  • 1 piece of 2-inch thin-sliced and peeled ginger

  • 1-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 pound of quartered and trimmed brussel sprouts
  • Lime wedges (depends on use)
  • Kosher salt (depends on use)

 

How to Make the Spicy Sauce

  1. Pour 1/3 cup of soy sauce or tamari to 1 measuring cup.
  2. Still using the same cup, reserve half of the limes after juicing it.
  3. Add water as many as ¾ cups.
  4. In a small saucepan, heat the sauce mixture over medium heat.
  5. Add garlic, shallot, ginger, chilies, and half of the limes after bubbles start to appear around the edges of the sauce mixture.
  6. Occasionally stir the sauce mixture and let it boil while pressing the aromatics and the lime down until half of the sauce mixture is reduced (or wait for about 10-15 minutes).
  7. For approximately 5 minutes, let the sauce mixture to cool after turning off the heat.
  8. While roasting the brussel sprouts, keep the sauce mixture at a room temperature.

 

How to Make Uchi Brussel Sprouts Recipe

  1. Put the number of 400° F to heat the oven.
  2. Toss the quartered and trimmed brussel sprouts in a large bowl with 1-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.
  3. Scoop and spread it on a cookie sheet in a single layer.
  4. Sprinkle Kosher salt over the brussel sprouts very lightly.
  5. Roast it until the color turns brown and the edges become crispy, but the center is still soft.
  6. Toss it with a spatula to check it is not burnt every 10 to 15 minutes.
  7. Pour half of the sauce to the brussel sprouts or more, if needed.
  8. Add lime wedges for better taste.
  9. The food is ready to be eaten.

In a single take, you can serve 4-6 people. Interesting, isn’t it? Some important notes you might want to pay more attention to include the fact that you can use jalapeno instead if you can’t find Thai chilies in the market.
