Get a small saucepan

Pour the milk, the saffron threads and 1 tbsp of sugar.

Heat the saucepan over medium-low heat so the sugar will be dissolved by stirring it.

When the milk is steaming, remove the saucepan. Let it cool to 110˚F or 43˚C.

Spray the yeast over the milk. Let them bubble for about 5 minutes.

Get a large bowl for whisking remaining sugar, flour, cardamom and salt.

In the flour center, make a well.

Pour down the milk, two eggs, butter and sour cream and stir them.

After the dough comes together, incorporate thoroughly by using your hands.

Prepare a clean surface for turning the dough out.

Knead until the dough looks springy for five minutes.

Prepare a plastic wrap for covering after you place it in a big bowl.

Wait for an hour until you see that the size is doubled.

Then, punch it down and turn it over onto a clean surface.

Separate the dough into twelve pieces with same size about 2 inches or 5 cm into the form of ball.

Roll into a cylinder around 30 cm or 12-14 inches long

Form the dough into an S shape. You can start at one end up to the middle and the other end.

Move the dough to baking sheet that has a parchment paper-lined.

Cover it with plastic wrap for about thirty minutes until it rises.

Preheat the oven to 200°C or 400°F

Use the rest of the egg for brushing over the dough swirls.

Pour one piece of raisin or chocolate chip in the swirls center on every corner.

Bake not more than 12 minutes, or until they look golden brown.
